Getting coffee the other day, a man approached me and said I smelled good. I said, "Who, me?" He said when he walked by me in the coffee shop, I smelled good.
"Thank you?" I must have asked it as a question because who says that? I don't think anyone has ever said that to me except maybe a lifetime ago when I cared about such things.
I have to admit, it made me smile a little. I don't think he was flirting. (He was probably half my age). I was just tickled to be seen and for someone to say something nice to me, a stranger. (Truthfully, I hadn't even showered yet.)
When my name was called and I retrieved my coffee from the collection of coffees ready at the counter, we exchanged smiles and wished each other a good day and I went home feeling the warm of that brief exchange.
It wasn't until I got home that I contemplated that he might have been talking to someone who was directly behind me the whole time.
I drank my coffee and then I headed for the shower.
